This past February I spent a little over two weeks in the most wonderful city in the world, Rio de Janeiro. People often ask me if I miss Brazil and if ever think of going back. The answer is primarily, no. I miss it but not to the point of waiting to make a life for myself there again. With the exception of this place. How could I not? The short two-year period when I harbored a home in Rio were long enough to make me fall in love for life. Over and over again.
One of the infinite reasons why I love this place so much is the local’s dedication to living a healthy, balanced lifestyle and their tireless passion for the place they inhabit. My days would start bright and early with a 7AM work out at the beach, surrounded by the most beautiful landscape you will ever see. There were countless options for healthy, fresh food restaurants to enjoy and even get delivered at your door.
For the last two months, I have been traveling around Brazil. Belo Horizonte, Ipatinga, Curitiba, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are the of places I visited within that time. It was long enough to rest some, work some, and live some.
There’s something about removing myself from my normal environment for a long period of time and I inevitably begin to re-evaluate things. I use this natural process to make necessary adjustments in both my work and personal life and it’s always worked out well for me.
I’ve been working with photographer Francisco Rojas in building our portfolios. So every now and then we get together and put on a photoshoot. This was one of the looks and definitely my favorite. There’s just something about pairing black lace and red lips that never fails.
Tomorrow at 12 pm cst I’m selling my closet on instagram. No, really. In order to make some space I’m parting with items that I love dearly, but one way or another are not being worn, for example, this floral print dress that I wore at my college graduation. It has always been a little tight on me. After I put on a few pounds the zipper just won’t close off! Time to pass it along.
How exactly? Follow my closet sale instagram account @shopflaviascloset and check back tomorrow for listings starting at noon. First person to comment with an email will be sent and invoice via Paypal. Prices includes shipping. Who’s excited?
Last year we decided for the first time we’d do Christmas cards. As you can see, we had fun shooting and yes, the pecan pie went straight into the bellies once the clicks were done. And since I had only shared a couple of shots from this 1950’s inspired shoot, I figured, why show more? It’s my favorite anyways!
Our nights in Mexico consisted of dining on some delicious Mexican dishes, walking about the resort as we felt the light ocean breeze, grabbing a drink or two at the sushi bar and just enjoying each other’s company. A bit boring, I know. But we decided to leave the clubbing night scene for next time.

It’s never that simple to pick something right to wear at the beach. At least not for me. Especially if it calls for something that works both on the sand and the surroundings. This was a day of exploring around Isla Mujeres (a 20-min ferry ride from Cancun). We grabbed a golf cart and drove around the island to see what we could discover. Never in my life have I seen such crystal clear blue ocean.
