Backstage : Goodnight My Love Take 2

Goodnight23

When I first learned I’d get to be a zombie in Goodnight My Love my first reaction was: YES! Second reaction following immediately after, I rushed to the remote control to watch an episode oh Walking Dead and start making zombie noises. You know, to perfect my growling skills. I knew I’d have to rely on the makeup department for a lot of the characterization and they were nothing short of amazing. Catherine Woods is a hell of a makeup artist. Everything looked so real (and disgusting) I had a hard time looking directly in the mirror and at other zombies after the transformation.

BACKSTAGE : Goodnight My Love TAKE 1

goodnight-my-love

Who would have thought I could go from bride to zombie in one day? Not long ago I didn’t even watch Walking Dead and soon after becoming addicted to the show I was cast in a zombie flick. So can you imagine my excitement in being part of this? I think you can give it a shot but no amount of guessing will describe my enthusiasm. “Goodnight My Love” was shot in two days. Flashbacks, dream sequences and zombie chases. Pretty cool, huh?

But underneath it all lays a story about human relationships. A homosexual couple lost everything they know in a zombie apocalypse. No matter the circumstances, “people need human contact” as once said Tennessee Williams through one of his characters dialogues and that’s what keep people fighting for survivalI’m extremely proud of this project for many many reasons, a few of them being my talented director and screenwriter Kellee Terrell (thank you so much for giving me the gift to play Aimee) Kristin Anderson for being such an amazing actor and challenging me to raise my bar, Elizabeth Brouillette and Conor O’Farrell for producing a kick ass short.

Backstage : Picture Perfect

Picture Perfect 18

I promised I’d keep you updated on new projects I’ve been involved in, so here you go. Currently I’m in the process of filming Picture Perfect  (that I’ve mentioned here) , an independent short by SWJC productions.

I get to play an ambitious model with twisted values who’s willing to do whatever it takes to reach her goals, even if it means hurting a few hearts along the way, including her own

Sam’s Little Place

Remember when I said Samantha Balk lived in the cutest (and coziest) apartment ever known to anyone? Now you don’t have to take my word for it.

If you follow her on instagram (and if you don’t, you really should) you’re probably very familiar with these beautiful frames accenting her dining space.

Sam operates her business from home, making it very understandable why she would wanna keep everything very neat and organized. Not to mention the attention to detail.

And I’m not the only one who agrees she has a knack for interior decorating. The girls at Refinery29 were quite impressed themselves.

Anyone out there inspired? I’m ready to rearrange some furniture! This brings us to the end of our “date with Sam” session. Hope you enjoyed getting to know this amazing girl, her dog Otis and her sweet little place!

Coffee with Sam

You’ve heard me rave about Samantha Balk and her Rose Vintage here about a gazillion times. Now,  just get ready for more. Sam welcomed me in her cozy Old Town apartment for afternoon coffee and I took a billion pictures (worth three full posts just for you.)

I guess cozy isn’t exactly as fitting as “dollhouse” to describe her adorable nest. It all coordinates very well with Sam’s bohemian with a tad of vintage style. Her attention to detail puts me to shame, which makes me wanna move. Period.

Why Sam had me over for coffee? You’ll have to check with her (surely she didn’t anticipate I’d lick the spoon and deep it right back in the sugar bowl). I’m such a lady!

Turns out, the spoon licking incident shook our friendship and we haven’t spoken since. Just kidding! Our friendship stood up to be saliva-proof. We hit it off when we met last summer. She’s one of the most talented and inspiring girls I know and I just straight out love and envy her style. And she didn’t even care that I licked her spoon.

Sam, Otis (her shaggy Old English Sheepdog) and I had a lot of catching up to do. Sam and I discussed career move (she selling, me acting), blogging, blogging with pressure, wedding planning (she’s engaged and planning a beautiful fall wedding). You name it, we talked about it. Like the gent he is, Otis kept humble and quietly practiced his listening skills.

What was there to munch on? Yummynes! She prepared the most delicious, best-of-my-life yogurt bowl. I love you Sam!

No need to stress I had a great afternoon in Sam’s company. With the craziness of everyday life sometimes it’s hard to find time to catch up and connect with friends, but this showed me how important and re-energizing it can be. Thank you for coffee, Sam! Next time, at my place and I promise I’ll work on my manners.

But wait, there’s more! Stay tuned for a peak of Sam’s incredible shop inventory and her awesomely decorated apartment. Soon on Lulu Abroad!

Right now, this is how Chicago looks like from my window. And so I  had to interrupt my vocal warm-up to capture a few images. As beautiful as it looks, I can’t stop wishing I didn’t have to brave this weather outside.

A Day In The Life

I can’t believe it’s been a year, huh? It seems like just a few weeks ago when my very first post went live on September 19, 2011. If you ask me, I’ve really enjoyed the times I’ve spent creating new content for my own little piece of the internet. Of course there were also times when joy gave way to stress and I wanted to pull my hair out, but nothing crazy.

I’ve learned a great deal. Went from not knowing what cache and cookies were to improvising html tricks here and there. A  year ago I didn’t know how much of a difference this blog would make in my life. And now I’m glad I do. So in celebration of Lulu Abroad’s first blogiversary I present you with “A Day in The Life”, a close look at my routine as a personal style blogger.

And of course, the blog wouldn’t be the same if it wasn’t for each one of you who stop by to check on me. Thank you for reading. Cheers!
